This listing is for one Handmade Lampwork Tabulated Focal Bead, the complete title of which is Olduvai.

Also the "Cradle of Mankind," Olduvai has yielded one of the largest and oldest records of our origins. This bead intends to emulate the terrain of Olduvai Gorge, and mark excavation sites. Moretti-Effetre's new opaque Dark Fossil glass, with its multi-toned veins and striations provides the base topography. Islands of webbed Silvered Ivory and Black glasses represent excavation sites - the Black glass indicating depth.

This pensive and reflective focal bead measures 39mm x 24mm x 8mm, approximately, and has been hand-wound on a 3/32" mandrel.

A most important part of the creation process involves the annealing of the bead. As annealing has a direct effect on the longevity, strength, durability, and continuing beauty of the piece, I use a kiln designed for temperatures in excess of 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperatures are controlled digitally, by a state-of-the-art Fuji computerized controller, which is calibrated for optimum results.

A little about me: I am a single parent of two children, who has been a full-time lampworker for the past seven years. A home studio permits me give both jobs the attention they need and deserve. All my beads are handmade, by me, in the studio. I have assistants, who help with photography, posting auctions, shipping, and cleaning beads.
