CECILIA - ATONEMENT - Amulet/ Necklace/ Pendulum

INSPIRATION: ATONEMENT - THE MOVIE - CECILIA TALLIS:

In the recent movie ATONEMENT, in which Keira Knightley and James McAvoy appear as star-crossed lovers, Cecilia Tallis (played by Keira Knightley) is the daughter of a very wealthy English family during World War II. Robbie, her lover, (James McAvoy), works on the property and belongs to a different social class. Cecilia's younger sister, Briony, has a crush on Robbie and through a turn of unusual events, winds up accusing Robbie of raping her young cousin at their estate. The rapist is another man. But Robbie is imprisoned as a result.

This piece reminds me of Cecilia, who unfortunately never is able to recover the ability to be with Robbie. Robbie goes to war and dies, and Cecilia becomes a nurse, and in trying to hide from the Nazis, drowns when the Nazis flood the underground station where she and others are hiding. She awaits her lover, but never sees him again.

Briony later writes a novel in which the lovers were reunited, not based on reality, as a an atonement and a way of trying to reunite them.

MATERIALS:

THE BAIL: This necklace is made primarily of Victorian style filigree featuring a Spell Bound Gems(tm) antiqued faux gem.

OBSIDIAN: The pendant is made from obsidian, a powerful stone which in

The obsidian is partially covered with vintage composite gold leaf, and has been etched with a clock and a crescent moon in gold...The gold leaf has been naturally aged over 20 years. The vintage brass tone watch hands tell the time...as Cecilia waits for Robbie and the chance to see him again..
