Think of a cool breeze on a warm summer day each time you see this large art glass bowl in rich green, cobalt blue, and purple art glass. Hand drawn lines of 22k gold depicting trees with an iridescent base glass gives it a dreamy shimmery quality.

If you hold this substantial bowl up to the light, it shimmers and glows because of the iridescent glass I use.

Hand crafted using glass powder for flowing color and line, the bowl is approximately 16" diameter and 2" deep.

Instead of using a mold to create the shape of this beautiful bowl, I use a 'drop ring' which is a flat ring of fired clay with an open center. Heat and gravity allow the glass to slowly 'slump' or 'sag' through the open ring until it touches my kiln floor. As soon as I like the shape (because I'm very hands-on at this point) of the bowl I shut down the heat and begin annealing the bowl for durability and strength.

I work with powdered glass for a more painterly effect. You'll see drifts of color that cannot be achieved with sheet glass.

I love how gold looks when fired into glass, so use it often. The gold is fired into the glass for permanence and won't wash or scratch off.
