"Sea Pear" Art quilt, Item 839, Dimensions: 12 X 12 inches. This is an abstract wall hanging, composed of hand dyed fabrics that have been embellished with surface design techniques such as discharge dyeing, soy wax batik, stamping. Fabric was assembled using fusible interfacing, then embellished with yarns, beading, lace and hand stitching.

I have been dyeing for over 10 years, but mostly tie-dyeing. In the summer of 2007, I took a 5 day class in surface design techniques from Melly Testa, who is a fabulous artist and quilter. My life has not been the same since! She taught me a number of techniques such as screenprinting, soy wax batik, stamping, monoprinting...
"Sea Pear" is made from fabrics I created during that class, and is my first of, I hope, many creations using surface design techniques.
By the way, the title came about because the primary shape looked like a sea creature that was pear shaped!
