The story pictured as quoted from the enclosed pamphlet is that nothing could be more important than making the right inpression - after all, these are the grandparents of the man she loves. So she put on her best dress, spent hours curling her hair, and heart in hand, went to dinner. How fully her efforts were repaid; the young lovers and the grand old couple hit it off immediately.
Now the four of them are getting to know each other better over a hand of bridge. And the young bride to be sits in the seat of honor - grandpa's overstuffed armchair.
By the time he painted "This is the Room That Light Made", the young Norman Rockwell already knew how to tell a story in paint and canvas. But Rockwell does more than simply capture a warm moments with his familiar blend of subtle whimsey and precise detail here; he has somethings more to say.
"This is the Room That Light Made" is not only a vivid tableau alive with closely observed people, it is also an insightful exploration of the sweeping changes caused by perhaps the single most important invention of Rockwell's generation - the modern electric light bulb.
The family grouping, posed gracefully and naturally about the lamp, let Rockwell use the full magic of his palette. From the bold chiaroscuro that defines the young man to the golden radiance that bathes the girl's dress and skin, from the inner lit translucence of the lampshade to the rich texture of the brocade. Rockwell demonstrates his sure grasp of painterly technique.
This plate comes with its original mailing box as pictured along with its original Certificate of Authencity, and information booklet.
This plate is in excellent condition with no chips, knicks, scratches, or crazing, it appears to have spent most if not all of its life in its box. This is a beautiful plate and would make a great wall decoration, or displayed on an end table or in a display case.
