"Don't Say I Said It" reads the caption beneath the painting as it first appeared on the cover of Life in 1922. The eyes and hands tell the story: the old woman makes a no-nonsense point with two fingers outstretched for emphasis, her half seen gaze indignant as she imparts her innuendoes; the young girl demurely balances her cup and saucer, eyes widening in obvious delight.

In an age when young girls were bobbing their hair, shortening their skirts, a young lady who knew her place was a reassuring sight. As for the older woman, she became a Rockwell favorite. Dressed in black bomazine, complete with a curious hat and bun, peering suspiciously at the world over the rims of her glasses this is the consummate busybody who will appear in dozens of Rockwell paintings over the years.

This Norman Rockwell Gossiping In The Alcove Collector Plate comes with its original mailing box as pictured along with its original Certificate of Authencity, and information booklet.

This beautiful plate is in excellent condition with no chips, knicks, scratches, or crazing, it appears to have spent most if not all of its life in its box.
