Product Description
Pierre Balmain Vintage Mens Tie In Cranberry, Blue and Tan- Item#VMT113
This is a handsome Pierre Balmain vintage men's tie in cranberry red, blue, gray and tan. As pictured this tie is cranberry red with, gray octagons and sqaures, gold octagons and squares, blue octagons and squares as well as light tan octagons and squares and an overall irridescent finish on the tie.
Ties build an image of confidence and power and this vintage Pierre Palmain tie just epitomizes both of those qualities.
This Pierre Balmain vintage mens tie in blue, cranberry, gray and gold still has its original tags the large one of course which reads "Pierre Balmain- Extra Long- 100% Silk", but it also still has its smaller tag which reads " Style Store, For the Man of Dimension".
Tie measures 61" in length and 4" across at its widest point and has no stains, pulls or tears, only some minor wrinkling in the area where the knot would have been made.
This great looking tie is in excellent vintage condition and has been well cared for in its lifetime. It originally belonged to a local professional man who was an avid tie collector for years. We acquired much of his collection which ranges from the 1950's through to the early 1980's.
This listing is for the tie only! The shirt and tie clip are used for display only!
Brief History of Pierre Balmain:
Pierre Balmain was born in St. Jean de Maurienne, France in 1914. His family was in the wholesale drapery business. Pierre's father died when he was 7 years old and his mother worked with her two sisters in a boutique which is where Pierre spent a great deal of time playing with fabrics and set his heart on becoming a couturier.
When Pierre grew up his mother sent him to study architecture at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, but he did not complete his studies because he was far more interested in designing dresses than he was in designing buildings. He eventually took some of his designs to Robert Piguet, who purchased three of them.
He later went to Molyneux said he would give him a trial and once he was accepted he left his architectural studies. He worked for Molyneux from 1934 to 1939, however in 1936 he was called up for compulsory military service. After completely his service in 1939, he then joined Lucien Lelong and worked for him during the German occupation of Paris.
Later in 1945, he finally opened his own fashion house, and his first showing was long bell shaped skirt with small waists something which later became popular with Dior's New Look. In 1947, he lauched his perfume line naming it after his telephone number Elysees 64-83.
He opened his branches in the United States in 1951, selling ready to wear clothing and his success was attributed to his ability to translate French fashion into clothes for the American womans generally larger frame.
Pierre was a noted designer for the international set for many years, and in addition to his couture work his designs were in great demand in Hollywood.
Over the years there were many famous names that worked for Pierre such as Karl Lagerfeld from 1955 to 1958.
Pierre Balmain wrote his autobiography in 1964, entitled "My Years and Seasons." Pierre died in 1982 in Paris. His house carried on under the direction of Erik Mortensen, who had been Pierre's right hand man. In later years the house has been run by other designers including Herve Pierre from 1991.
