This stunning original design fiber art wall quilt is an outdoors scene of a river landscape with a three dimensional handmade dragonfly.
The river background was created with a Batik fabric and the sky is a painted fabric covered with painted organza.
The sky has been stitched to give the appearance of clouds in the sky and the edges of the organza have been partially melted to soften the edges.
The border fabric is a Batik fabric of rich green with hints of blues and golds.
The dragonfly was created in a hoop on water soluable fiber with threadwork to form the wings and the body is threadwork with black yarn. After the water soluable was washed away the wings were covered with a light purple wool roving to make them shinny. The three dimensional body of the dragonfly was shaped during the drying process and has been attached to the surface of the quilt with stitching. Black beads are used for the eyes and glitter was added around the eyes and across the lower body of the dragonfly.
The folage along the river's edge was created with many different yarns, fabric and threads. The wood along the edge of the river are actual pieces of driftwood that I have collected.
Beading that looks like rocks has been added as another embellishment.
This beautiful scene is ready to hang with a sleeve attached to the upper back of the quilt. (dowel is not included)
The wall hanging is machine quilted and the edges have been turned using a rich blue fabric for the backing.
There is a signed and dated signature label by the artist Jennifer Whitted attached to the back of the quilt.
