Fabric collage is an art form created with bits of many elements to form a quilted wall art piece. This beautiful fabric art collage was created with a 1898 vintage glass photo of a woman spinning wool surrounded by other elements of fibers, a butterfly, wires and beads. It would be an unusual addition to a vintage art collection and would be beautiful displayed on the wall near your collection.
The vintage glass photo was made by Ullman Mfg and has a date on it of 1898. The photo is surrounded with a piece of black felt that has been stitched and burned for interest. It was glued to the surface.
The background fabric is a piece of decorator fabric with soft blue and tan coloring.
Other elements of the collage are a metal butterfly on a piece of heated and stitched black felt, three glass beads of a multi-blue color; 2 large handcrafted beads with small bead centers and attached to the surface with yarn; a beaded flower and twisted gold wires.
The elements of the collage are corded off with multi-colored blue yarn.
Before the elements were placed on the surface of the background it was machine quilted.
The edges of the piece are not bound but are left raw and frayed. The edge has also been finished with a piece of the multi-colored blue yarn with copper threads.
The back of the art quilt is another piece of decorator fabric and it has a signed, dated label by the artist.
Stitched to the upper back side is a sleeve for a dowel to hang the piece.
Size of the quilt is: 12 inches by 12 inches.
