It's a sunny October afternoon, and the mountains are a riot of color. There's a trip to the winery on the lake complete with friends, food and conversation. Maybe you stop at the apple orchard on the way home where the tree branches are so heavy with fruit that they nearly touch the ground. It's autumn in New York, and it's time to take advantage of the cool days and nights before the snow flies.

The essence of a New York autumn is captured beautifully in this handmade, 23" beadwoven necklace, created with off-loom beadweaving techniques. Off-loom beadweaving is the art of weaving together all types of beads using only a needle and thread.

I create each of my pieces by hand, one at a time. Because this piece was created using random and assorted fringe techniques, it is truly one of a kind. This piece was created using Japanese seed beads, an assortment of Czech pressed glass beads, and an antiqued brass toggle clasp in the shape of a leaf.

Beading thread holds it all together. I prefer to use Wildfire beading thread for it's superior strength and suppleness. With proper care, this piece will last several generations to become a family heirloom.
