The gold color of the metal in these nickelfree and hypoallergenic earrings brings out the gold mica inclusions characteristic of of genuine Lapis Lazuli gemstone. These earrings are safe and suitable for individuals with nickel and/or silver allergies. These hypoallergenic earrings measure approximately 1 and 1/4 inches (or 3.2 cm) from the top of the earwire to the bottom of the dangle, making them lightweight for easy wear.

Lapis Lazuli is one of the traditional birthstones for September, Taurus, and Libra, and is sometimes substituted for Blue Sapphire. Lapis Lazuli also is the anniversary gemstone for the 7th and 9th years of marriage.

These gemstones are truly stones, not crystals, and are actually formed as part of metamorphic rocks created as the magma chamber rises in a young, newly forming volcano. Lapis Lazuli was sought and used by ancient Egyptians, Mesopotamians, Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians, and Babylonians for amulets, seals, and jewelry. Historically it has usually been reserved for royalty; Cleopatra wore powdered Lapiz Lazuli as an eye shadow.

These earrings are 100% nickel-free, lead-free, and hypoallergenic. The findings (all metal parts) are made from natural brass, which is 85% copper / 15% zinc, both minerals that are biologically necessary for life, so they cannot cause an allergy.

Upon request, any of my earrings can also be made with different material findings, including 22K Gold-plated surgical grade stainless steel (recommended by Simply Whispers), .999 fine silver plated surgical grade stainless steel, natural brass (bronze), solid copper, or enamel plated copper (in a variety of colors). The enamel plated copper is the most hypoallergenic of these materials, though it does not offer quite the same look and shine as fine silver or 22K gold.

Another factor to consider is that fine silver tarnishes quickly and splotchy, solid copper tarnishes somewhat slowly, brass tarnishes slowly and evenly, and the 22K gold and enamel do not tarnish at all.
