This timeless hat band was created using old indian and buffalo head nickels. A total of 8 coins are mounted to a handmade black leather hat band. The adjustable band is a total of 27 inches in length including the buckle. It is 1 inch wide and tapers at both ends.

My husband has worn one of these bands on his hat for more than 40 years. Old coins are hammered into a cone shape in the same way that concho belts were created. After the coins are shaped, next comes the mounting pins. These are soldered on and then attached to the hat by hammer.
These are labor intensive. Cutting and shaping of the leather, stamping the coin shapes, soldering the backs, then hammering the coins into place. Finally, polishing the old coins!
