Welcome to the Bigtop! Vintage circus figures carved from and printed on wood are ready to perform for you! Come see the ringmaster, the lady acrobat on the horse, the strongman, the lion, the elephant and the zebra!

These are carved from softwood lumber with a scroll saw and don't appear to have ever been sealed or finished. Each one depicts a circus act and the dashing and debonair ringmaster is there to keep the show going.

They are all ¾ inch (19 mm) thick and range from 3 x 2 inches (76 x 50 mm) for the lion and 4 ½ x 3 ¾ (114 x 95 mm) for the acrobat on the horse.

They are not museum quality, having spent at least the few years of their lives in the toybox. The odd ding on each and the zebra obviously met up with the waterpaint set at some point. There is some discoloration at the top and back with pink and black and the zebra seems to have a slightly blushing face.

These have been part of my toy display since the mid 1980s and were not new when I acquired them. I've long wondered if they were a manufactured product or if they were made by hand for that special child. They remind me of the circuses of my childhood, under the bigtop. Their actual age is unknown, but certainly are 25+ years old.

What I love most about this set is the zebra! I don't think you'd ever find a zebras used as a circus animal. They are notoriously hard to train and have an all around bad attitude. This one is obviously an exception to the rule - he has a big smile on his face and a mischievous look in his eye.

Circuses are some of the most beloved memories of childhood. This set is perfect for bringing those memories back to life.
