This carving set is forged from high carbon rail road spikes. I have twisted the handles then drawn out the steel to shape on the anvil. The blade on the knife is then ground and oil hardened. The steel used in spikes has an excellent edge holding character. The knife is a full 11 1/2" long and perfectly balanced for use. The fork is forged and ground from a similar spike
