Echinacea is a valuable immune system support. Many people swear by it to prevent illness, especially during flu and cold season. I myself have not gotten a cold since I've been taking it.
This tincture was made using the root, the strongest medicinal part. It is antibacterial, antiviral, antiinflammatory and an immonostimulant. It helps prevent colds and infections, and helps your body fight existing colds off by stimulating T-cells. It is used to treat upper respiratory infections and urinary tract infections. It can also be used externally as a poultice on wounds. This one should be in everyone's medicine cabinet!
This medicinal tincture may be added to liquids, food, or taken under the tongue. Recommended dosage is 1/2 tsp every two hours for acute infections, or three times a day as a preventative. You should take echinacea for 3 weeks, then take one week off.
Side effects for echinacea are rare, but may include fever or tingling of your tongue. When touching the cut root to your tongue, it makes it tingle, which is an indication that it is medicinally potent. When I made this tincture it did indeed tingle quite a bit! :) Do not take if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you have an autoimmune disease.
About tinctures:
Tinctures are stronger than the dried herbs or caplets you may get from the store, so you need less of them. Tinctures have a minimum shelf life of 2 years, most for much longer (up to 10 years). They are easy to take so if you have problems swallowing pills, these are a natural and more beneficial solution.
Tinctures are packaged in 1 ounce amber bottles with droppers included.
