The painting detail pattern is supplied with the cutout. Just peel the pattern off the wood cutout, place a piece of carbon (tracing) paper on the wood, place the pattern on top of that and trace the painting detail lines. Note that the pattern has the shape of the object so that placement is very easy. No guessing where the pattern edges are relative to the piece. Now choose your colors and paint away! We won't try to tell you how to paint. If you are a true novice just do a search of “tole painting” on the Web and you will find tons of data on how to get started.
My cutouts are made from Eastern White Pine with some pieces cut from Baltic Birch Plywood. Both are a wood of choice for professional tole painters. I use precision scroll saw blades to typically provide smooth edges plus I sand each piece both front and back. All this is to minimize the amount of sanding you will have to do to produce outstanding results.
