For this mini painting I used watercolor and Prismacolor color pencils. The surface is Multimedia Artboard, a stiff bright white paper about the thickness of 300 lb watercolor paper; its archival and has a textured surface. The edges of the piece have been lightly scraped so a bit of the paper shows through.
This ACEO is already framed. I used 2 mats (dark green and burgundy and a dark green frame) and its framed to 8" x 10" - see the second photo.
This handsome young buck had stopped on our road just long enough for me to sneak out and snap a couple of photos. I titled the piece "Spike" because his antlers are just single spikes at his young age.
I often choose color schemes other than what you would expect - I render the subject accurately, but choose a different palette. In this case, instead of browns & tans, I decided to use shades of yellow, orange & even magenta for the buck.
