Hello and thank you for viewing an original design from Hosslass Art! This functional art piece is part of a Southwest Wildlife Journal series. Each journal is design with an original watercolor pencil miniature painting and complimented with natural gemstone/bead accents that match the theme of each painting! The journals are hand cut, hand laced and hand fashioned, so each journal is unique and one of a kind creation.
This journal highlights the enchantment of the one and only Grand Canyon in Arizona and the predominant Elk population that make the canyon trails their home. “Elk on Grand Canyon Rim” is an original watercolor pencil painting, not a print. The size of the painting is 3” x 3 ¼” glued onto the journal cover 4 ¼” x 3 14/16”. Beads used are three metal antiqued copper (6mm) accented with two natural cut (4mm) orange/peach color Mexican Fire Opals (with opalescence!) on each side of the copper bead.
Each journal is constructed with a faux leather thick handmade dark brown paper cover that has real black leather trim edge outside and inside cover. The binding lace is a leather black cord woven in a three peak triangle design and secured on the back with a metal bar clasp. Inside of the cover is an olive green handmade silk threaded paper and holds 18 pages of blank gold parchment paper. The paper and leather is all hand cut so there are some irregular edges. The beads used are sewn on with black silk cord and then glued in place. Each original painting has three layers of art matte varnish for protection from color fading.
This mini journal is designed in a small size to be able to be held in the palm of the hand and easy to pack & store along on your travels. The journals are not waterproof so take care when handling in outside conditions (water and heat exposure). I suggest they be carefully packed in a zip loc baggie or a water tight case if you’re taking one traveling with you. Imagine yourself feeling so satisfied from a great hike or ride, stopping to rest and taking out the journal to memorialize the occasion in you own handwriting!

Inspiration / Story behind this Product:
All the pictures you see of the Grand Canyon don’t truly have the impact until you see the canyon for yourself! I took my first visit to the canyon this spring and, needless to say, I am hooked! I *must* go back, and spend some hours on the trail! The Grand Canyon is actually located through a forested plateau of which numerous elk make their home. While on my all too short visit there, our guide showed us how they eat and forage right on parts of the rim, as evidenced by several scat piles around. (For those who know the GC trails, it was by south Kiabab). I imagined a beautiful elk walking a rim trail, simply adding to the already awesome presence that is the Grand Canyon.
