A super strong neodymium "rare earth" magnet is glued to the back. These have a pull force of 2.88 pounds! Neodymium magnets may be harmful to a person with a pacemaker or similar medical device as the magnetic field can interfere with its operation. Neodymium magnets should not be played with by young children as they can cause a choking hazard and can be extremely harmful is swallowed.
