This listing is for the instructions to make this piece of jewelry, not the actual piece or the materials. This is advanced level project, although the instructions are very clear and thorough, and beginners to intermediate students can successfully complete this project with patience.
This tutorial teaches the techniques to wire wrap a slider style pendant, with a prong setting. It can be altered to set either a cab, or faceted stone. Modifying the gauge of wire and number of prongs, it can be used to set almost any size and shape of stone. The materials listed for this project are for a 30mm by 20mm oval cab, with a 5 wire ‘basket’ base, but I provide details on how to measure for different stones.
Materials suggested:
30mm by 20mm oval cab
42.5 inches 21 gauge square wire
21 inches 22 gauge square wire
Tools needed:
Jewelers ruler (showing millimeters)
Masking or quilters tape
Sharpie marker
Cleaning cloth
Flat nose pliers
Chain nose pliers
Round nose pliers (preferably stepped)
Flush wire cutters
Round or oval mandrel or wooden dowel for shaping the setting.
Optional: penknife and pin-vise
