Solid Pine Sewing Cradle
Holds signatures up to 12 inches high
Punch Stations with Ease!
This auction is for a handmade solid pine sewing cradle. This is used in bookbinding for when you punch the holes in your signatures for sewing. You rest the signature in the cradle and push straight down through the fold with an awl. It holds the signatures stationary and keeps the folded sheets of paper from shifting.
The sewing cradle measures 6 inches high, 6 inches wide and 13 inches long. It will hold a signature of paper up to 12 inches in height and as wide as you want.
Iâve been using a variety of different methods to hold my paper for punching the stations for sewing, from an old phone book to stacks of cardboard. I made a crude version of this cradle over a year ago and itâs wonderful. I showed my brother and father some pictures and discussed my ideas and this simple cradle is the finished product. Iâve been using one for months now and itâs exactly what I want and need in a sewing cradle.
Each sewing cradle is made from solid Maine grown pine. The pine is grown and harvested from my family farm in Jonesboro, Maine. MY family harvests the pine as needed. Each log is then milled down to the correct sized needed. Itâs allowed to dry to prevent warping. From the sizes needed my family planes the pieces down, and cuts them to the required shapes and sizes.
