Inspiration / Story behind this Product:
I have done my best to preserve the colors and intensities, but it is impossible to capture all the sparkle because of the intense reflection. It is much more beautiful in person!
This piece of jewelry is made by cutting and layering pieces of glass to very exact measurements and heating to around 1450 degrees in a kiln. This causes the pieces of glass to fuse together (hence the term "fused glass") and become one piece of glass. After it cools, I use a grinder to clean up the edges so that it has an even, finished appearance. It is then "fire polished" at a lower temperature in the kiln to shine up and round the edges where it was ground.
What is dichroic glass you ask? It is actually a coating applied in a vacuum, originally developed by the laser industry. NASA and theaters such as IMAX use it as an optical coating and filter. In the '70's glass artists discovered it. It transmits one color and reflects back the remaining colors of the spectrum. Therefore if you hold a piece of it up to light you see green, but if you place it on black you see magenta because only red and blue wavelengths are left to be reflected back.
