Making Ferdinand involves both knitting and little bit of crochet, but only basic stitches are used. The knitting is done in the round, with the stitches knit, increase and knit 2 together. The crochet stitches are chain, single crochet and slip stitch.
Size depends on the yarn and needles/hook you use. I use needles size 4 mm - US 5-6 - UK 8 and crochet hook size 3 mm - US D - UK 11, and with these Ferdinand ends up 12 cm (4 3/4 in) tall.
