Meet the Maker: HosslassArt

Hello! My name is Connie L. Owens and I welcome you and your interest in my art!

Somehow, without me really understanding why, God has gifted me with a tiny drop of His artistic ability and passion. About two years ago, after many decades of dormancy, God stirred that artistic passion in me once again, and this time I got smart and acted on it!! Slowly but surely my art portfolio is building and I am so enjoying this journey of discovery!

The inspiration for my art is my lifelong love and bond to horses (my family always thought I would outgrow the "horse phase", HA, HA!). My first horse was given to me when I was 16 and I worked night and day, through blood, sweat, tears, highs and lows to keep horses in my life ever since!! I am so blessed that since 1997 I have had daily first hand experiences to draw on from caretaking for a herd of ten horses.

Another area of immense artistic inspiration for me is the great Southwest. In recent years I have had the opportunity to travel and study southwest landscapes, cultures and lifestyles. It's been a fascinating artistic and personal journey!

One of the purposes for my ArtFire shop is to showcase my watercolor pencil art. I didn't' even know watercolor pencils existed when I started drawing and painting again a couple of years ago. Anyway, once I found them, it was a perfect fit!! I love the results of the color and water combined and the versatility of using a pencil or paint. My home is quite limited on space, my "studio" is a small section of the living room by a north light window, so using watercolor pencils didn't require a lot of space for materials, just good paper, brushes and a place for water!

There's also a part of me that loves to create and design functional gift art! I have a strong practical side that I try to blend with the chaotic artsy side so the functional art is the result! My ideas often incorporate miniature original paintings with natural stone beads embellishments. I've created bookmarks, journals, pin backs, small drawstring bags all with original art. Always ready to think up of new ideas!!

I share my country home with my husband, two wonderful dogs, Bella and Winnie, and three beautiful cats. I also, of course, have my fantastic Arabian gelding, Sisco, and my nine other boarding barn horses I take care of everyday and draw inspiration from (not to mention make perspiration from too! LOL).

I really thank you for visiting with me and hope you enjoy my art! God Bless, Connie
