This teddy bear artist not only handcrafts each of her miniature sensations, she designs them too. She also drafts knitting patterns, designs and makes bead knitted pouches and an eclectic line of jewelry. Shelley is a 60 year old wife, mother of two grown sons and grandmother of one positively scrumptious six year old grandson and one equally scrumptious ten year old granddaughter. She is happily living with her darling husband, two dogs and one cat in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
Shelley has moved a lot in her life living nearly half of it outside of the United States in Europe and the Middle East. In the process, she has had more than a few professional incarnations. She has been a midwife with a home-birth practice, teacher, programmer, secretary, bookkeeper, waitress and even a car sales person. She has always loved sewing and managed to use her skills in that area to put a little money in her pocket since she was seven and started making doll clothes for friends in the neighborhood.
A little over eleven years ago a friend drug her to her first bear show to get her mind off a health crisis in the life of her younger son. She designed her first bear, Mickey with his lady bug, took him to a show and the rest, as they say, is history. Now she is hooked on bears and happily designing and making the furry critters as fast as her little fingers can stitch them up. The bead knitted pouches and jewelry were a late addition to her business but not late additions to her skill set. Shelley has been an avid knitter and jewelry maker since much of the rest of the world was knee high to a grasshopper.
