Meet the Maker: spartasoap
Who or what am I? Sparta Soap is a one woman soapmaker named Sandy Chidester.
I've been playing around making soap for 7 years now. The first year involved a lot of fun experimentation. I've been seriously making soap for 6 years.
I live in southwestern Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh.
Sparta Soap is called Sparta Soap, because I wanted something that conveyed an elegant, simple, yet classic feeling. My soap is made with just three oils: Olive, Palm Kernel and Coconut. I use 51% olive oil with the balance being almost equally divided between the palm kernel and coconut oils.
I am very fond of single note scents. Sure, I can blend with the best of them (slate, spruce, caravan, dragon's blood, absinthe and so on). But there is just something about a single herbal note or a bright lemon essential oil standing alone. I guess it's that whole 'simplicity' thing again!
