Meet the Maker: 3FineDesign

Welcome to 3Fine Design® ~

My name is Tracy Behrends and I'm a self taught jewelry artist, designer, beadweaver and leatherworker located in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN, USA). I've been designing and selling jewelry since 2005. However, creating (using various forms and media) has been an integral part of my entire life since childhood. I specialize mainly in contemporary hand stitched beadwork, wire sculpture and leathercraft pieces that are one of a kind and tend to be "outside the box." Therefore, if you're looking for unique and unusual treasures for yourself to enjoy, or gifts for that special someone, you've come to the right place.

For several of my designs I use a hand stitched bead weaving technique called embellished right angle weave (RAW). I particularly enjoy the intricacy and challenges associated with tiny seed beads, needles and various beading threads. It's a very time consuming process with an abundance of love and gratification woven into every new creation.

In addition, a few of my other passions include designing beaded cabochons (using bead weaving and bead embroidery techniques), creating wire sculpture pendants and hand tooling leather into unique jewelry pieces and specialty buttons. It's my fascination with detail and the beauty of the finished product that make the stitching, wrapping and tooling process particularly captivating. I consider each and every new design an exciting adventure.

My past experience and love for graphic arts significantly influence my jewelry designs. My affinity for symmetry, texture, geometric shapes, bright colors, simplicity and rhythmic patterns is readily apparent in the pieces that I create. For me, it's not only the completed product that brings a sense of joy and personal satisfaction but rather the entire creative process. From concept to the finishing touches, each journey compels me to stretch and grow. It's within the maturation experience and facing the challenges along the way that I find artistic fulfillment.

Feel free to browse my studio at your leisure. If you have any questions, please contact me directly via the ArtFire message system, email or telephone. I'm happy to answer them for you.

This is Mojo ~ our beloved Australian Cattle Dog (a.k.a. Blue Heeler). She just turned 3 years old this year (2009). We adopted her when we discovered her on the internet when she was living in a foster home in Michigan. She's a big time love bug & such a joy. Mojo was born deaf & this is the first time that we've ever owned a deaf pet. It's been a WONDERFUL experience training her to understand commands using hand signals. My husband, Mojo & I have learned so much together in the process. She's always got her 'Mojo Workin' & is a real show stopper on her daily walks. Everyone just loves her. She's absolutely beautiful inside & out.

This is Chica ~ the Queen Bee of our house (the eldest). She's an adorable tortoise shell American shorthair cat. She just turned 14 this year (2009). She's still got plenty of vim & vigor for her age in addition to personality PLUS! Here she's posing with her beautiful red soft paw caps on a soft cushy pillow. We were fortunate enough to find her at the Humane Society back in 1996 here in Minneapolis. We knew from the first minute we saw her that she was destined to be our kitty. We have a million nicknames for her to include: Beekie Bun, Cheeks & The Munster Bunster. She's a small cat but tough as nails with an abundance of sass & spunk. We adore her.

This is Shy ~ (a.k.a. Shai Shishi in Hebrew). She turned 4 years old this year (2009). Her name means "6th Gift" in Hebrew & what a GIFT she is! God blessed us with her shortly after our beloved cat "Amore" passed away at 19 years of age. We found her at the Humane Society here in Minneapolis in 2006. She's absolutely gorgeous, solid black, golden eyes, a total SWEETHEART, gentile, loving, silly, funny & mischievous. She's usually the one that knows just what to do in order to stir the pot a bit with the other two. Mojo loves to give her kisses on the top of the head first thing in the morning to say hello. She's my precious little snuggle bug.

A beautiful yellow & pink Hibiscus flower sitting in my garden. Gardening is a beloved hobby of mine that I pour my heart & soul into every growing season. My garden is a tremendous source of peace, tranquility & inspiration for me.

I love my perennials! This is a photo of one of my Clematis vines in bloom. There's something about perennials that's so refreshing & energizing in the Spring. They're those faithful little companions that come up every year & never cease to amaze me with their vivid colors & breathtaking beauty.
