Meet the Maker: Kungfuchicken
Kung Fu Chicken is a two person studio that consists of husband and wife team Carmelita Nunez and Daniel Shown.
Carmelita is a ceramic artist who works primarily in functional wares that create a feeling of warmth and comfort in the home. Carmelita is an illustrator who likes to feel movement from very organic sources. She creates bold graphic shapes and surfaces on her pieces. She will also create little creatures and characters depending on her mood. All pieces are made to be food safe and microwave safe. Hand washing is recommended. The pieces have a range for serving, cooking, eating and drinking. Carmelita also makes non functional decorative sculpture and jewelry.
Daniel Shown is obsessed with the creative potential of new media and technology. By day he makes computers work "properly". By night he strives to coax the unexpected from them.
Finding the creative possibilities in computers means more to Daniel than just Photoshop, Flash, Final Cut and similar tools. It means writing code using tools like Context Free and Processing. It means taking images off the page, and finding new homes for them in the physical world. It means both carefully crafting objects and performing hyperdelic visual narratives. It means not just sight, but sound.
Daniel is also a very versatile painter who creates very thought provoking images using a mixed media approach.
