Meet the Maker: GlassNiche
The Glass Niche sells quirky one-of-a-kind fused and kiln-formed glass. My studio (shared with my furry friends) is just east of metro St. Louis.
Much of the work is made with glass pulled into strings or threads, called vitrigraphs. An extremely hot kiln (1800-2000 degrees) pours out liquid glass and those hot streams are shaped by hand. I also sell and distribute these stringers to other artists to incorporate into their own work.
All my fused glass begins with quality art glass sheets and an idea. Glass is cut and arranged in a kiln to fire at high temps. Complete fusion is around 1500 degrees -vases and bowls are shaped at 1200. The attention to detail shows in the carefully ground and smoothed edges of all my piecesl
My focus is on creating fun and quirky items; plus beautiful designs to complement your home. Many of these items are donated to local charitable events to support animal rescue, cancer research and community service projects. Additionally, some proceeds of artfire sales will be donated.
