Meet the Maker: ArtbyJean
The photo of me was taken at the Capital Hill club in Washington DC, back in the 70's ...a night I will never forget.
I have always loved pretty journals which led me to learn the wonderful art of bookbinding. I started using the coptic stitch and then gradually developed my own stitching technique combined with macrame knotting. My vision is to create the most gorgeous journals and coffee table book possible. Sometime in the future I would like to have a one man exhibition of my work.
When I am not making journals, I spend my spare cash on supplies which I turn into "fillers" for the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. For the kids, I made necklaces, rag dolls, note books, sewing kits, pencil cases etc.

I made this journal for my daughter for her birthday. It will be used as a coffee table book in the "Egyptina" room. Each of the pages was individually torn, stained and scorched to make them look old. Over 1300 handmade beads make up the two tassels of bead strings that are joined to the spine stitching with macrame knotting.
Hand cast plate made in a handmade mold. With hibiscus flowers embedded (like fossils) and then gilded with gold.

This is a sketch in pastels which was done from a photo I took on the way to the Bungle Bungles. It was my day off when working at the Argyle Diamond Mine. I worked as a CAD operator updating the electrical drawings.
