How to Make Your Own Books, Notebooks and Journals

I'm always interested when I see strangers pull out a little notebook in a coffee shop or in the park. Writing down your thoughts is such a great way to process things and keep ideas in mind. Despite my best efforts, I have never been much for keeping a notebook or journal. There are so many things I would like to catalog and organize, from recipes and important information to random ideas. I write down a lot of notes, but they have no organization. Tiny scraps of paper are endlessly flitting around me, getting lost, getting found and usually getting washed and dried with my clothes.

With that in mind I decided to make myself a journal/note-keeper, and research the DIY book options out there. There are a lot of tutorials out there for making your own books, notebooks and journals; below are some of the easiest and most useful I came across. There are so many great ones I'm not sure which to do!

Notebook

Hardcover Book

Thin Booklet

 Floppy Disk Notebook

Playing Card Mini-Notebook

If you want to produce a digital book, there are several websites out there that you can use. Bookemon allows you to upload photos and text to create a digital book that you can page through, but you can also order a printed book (for a price). Have you ever made your own book/notebook? Although I've always kept a journal (and a diary when I was a young girl), they were always store-bought. This has inspired and motivated me in a big way to try my hand and skills at making my own. Thanks for this!

This was interesting and fun. Yes I have made notebooks. I make Plein Aire Water Color Journals. I've done the hand sewing kind, but also with a sewing machine. I've also made a thin wooden cover with 2 parts. The 2 parts were attached with leather hinges (material could also be used) so that the binding is under an inch strip of wood. Thanks for sharing! Blessings! Julie
