ArtFire's checkout process gives you the ability to offer an inlince credit card purchase option if you have a ProPay merchant account. A ProPay merchant account allows you to accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover cards directly within your ArtFire shops checkout pages.
Can I use my ArtFire ProPay account to sell in other venues? (such as craft shows, other online marketplaces (ETSY, eBay), a personal website, or to family and friends)
Yes, as long as you are selling the same products under the same business name. If you have more than one business, you would need more than one account.
How much does ProPay cost?
Please visit your My ArtFire dashboard and look for the ProPay box in the right hand column by scrolling down the page. Click the "Sign Up Today" link in the ProPay box to see the special offer for ArtFire Sellers.
Why is there a fee to process cards?
The fees for merchant processing support the banks, infrastructure and service providers that facilitate the processing of the transactions.
Why is there an annual fee AND a transaction fee?
Most merchant account providers charge a monthly fee or monthly minimum, even if you don't process a single card. ProPay only charges a once-per-year annual fee and then each time you process. This gives also gives you a virtual terminal (compare to $30/month with PayPal).
Is ProPay less expensive than just buying a credit card terminal?
For most sellers, ProPay is a less expensive option than buying a terminal. If the majority of your business is in-person or retail, you may find a more suitable plan with a traditional terminal.
How do I get the money from my sales?
When logged into www.propay.com, you can electronically transfer funds to your bank by inputting your bank routing and account number. This costs $0.10-$0.35 and is available in your bank account within 1-2 business days.You can also easily access your funds by using the linked ProPay MasterCard debit card to spend or obtain money at an ATM.
What cards can I accept with ProPay?
Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
What will show on my customer's credit card statement?
Your 'doing business as' name and phone number will show, if a d/b/a was given during sign up. Otherwise, your email address and phone number will show on the customer's statement.
How much can I process through ProPay?
ArtFire accounts are initially approved to process $500 per transaction and $3000 per month. If you need to process more than this, please contact sales@propay.com, 888-227-9856 or limits@propay.com. You may be asked to send in additional information about your business to be approved.
What restrictions are there on the types of products I can sell?
Please refer to ProPay's Acceptable Use Policy here for a complete list of restricted and prohibited items. ProPay's risk management team is familiar with sellers of online handmade arts, crafts, collectibles, vintage items and jewelry. Most accounts are approved without any additional requirements. Sellers of expensive fine art, fine jewelry, high-value antiques or collectibles may need to provide additional information to continue processing.
Do you have any card readers for in-person sales?
The FLASH card reader connects via USB for processing, encrypts on swipe for security, and can also store up to 71 transactions for later uploading. It is usually $99.95 per unit + shipping. See www.propay.com for details.The JAK card reader connects to iPod Touches, iPhones, iPads and soon Android phones for real-time processing via WiFi or cell signal. The card reader encrypts immediately for security, which allows for secure storage of the transaction data if you are have no connection during the sale. It is usually $49.95 per unit + shipping. What happens if I process a stored card and it is declined?
You would need to contact the buyer and obtain alternate payment information. This is similar to accepting a check that turns out with insufficient funds. If you are selling at events, you may want immediate authorization before giving product away. You can use a card reader or the website if you have an internet connection. Otherwise, you can call our 800# processing line from any touch-tone phone for real-time authorization.
Is there a lower fee for processing cards via a card reader?
Swiped transactions are .2% less than your standard rate.
Will I have to deposit a reserve? How much?
Most sellers do not have a reserve requirement. If needed, the amount of the reserve varies based on the seller's business history, credit qualification and the requested processing volumes. Contact sales@propay.com, limits@propay.com or 888-227-9856 for more information.
How long will you hold a reserve?
If required, reserves are typically held for at least 120 days (the timeframe during which a cardholder may dispute the charge).
What is a chargeback?
A chargeback is when a cardholder disputes or reverses a transaction because an item was damaged, never received, not as described, or the cardholder disputes that they gave authorization to the merchant to charge the card.
How often do they happen?
Chargebacks are infrequent, especially if you have very clear policies and terms of sale. Be sure your customers know what will show on their credit card statement.
Is there a fee for a chargeback?
How can I avoid chargebacks?ProPay charges $15 per chargeback to help you represent your sales documents to the cardholder's bank and recover the money.
If possible, obtain a signed receipt from your customer. If you cannot do this, gather as much information about the buyer as possible, including the CVV2 or card security code located on the front or back of the card. Pay attention to Address Verification codes provided on completed transactions to ensure the billing address matches. Shipping via a traceable carrier or obtaining delivery confirmation also helps prove the customer received the product. Inform your customers what will show on their card statement.
What happens if I did everything right and the buyer is lying or fraudulently filing a charge back?
If you have followed the guidelines for avoiding charge backs and have good documentation of the transaction, you are likely to win the funds from the sale back. ProPay will work with you to submit the needed information to the issuing bank to recover the funds.
Does the MasterCard debit card cost extra?
The card is included in the price of your account and allows you to use your available balance immediately. There is no cost to spend money using the card. It does cost $2.00 to obtain cash via an ATM.
Can I pay my ArtFire subscription with ProPay?
You may use your ProPay MasterCard to pay your ArtFire subscription fees.
