The Homepage of Facebook, a window of opportunity

1. Getting Started: Registering on Facebook

If this is your first experience with Facebook you will need to start by registering. Head to www.facebook.com and fill in the "Sign Up: It's free and anyone can join" input fields with your name, an email address, and other information. Facebook helps you connect with friends, family, and associates. It is advisable, at a minimum, to keep all information you enter real, even if you choose to withhold most details about yourself. Enter your information, and prove your human with a security captha to continue.

Here's how my registration screen looked when I was finished.

2. Filling out your profile and finding friends.

The first page you'll be sent to is an automatic friend finder that can help you find people you know by importing information from your contacts lists off the email address you provided. The chances are very high that you already know people who are using Facebook, even if this is your first time. If you'd like helping finding your first contacts you can use this tool, otherwise click the "skip this step" text hyperlink in the bottom right corner of the blue box to continue on.

Now it's time to fill out your profile. Again you can be as vague or as specific as you choose. Only provide the information you are comfortable being public. Many of these fields will help old friends find you again. You can always fill out and edit this information later as well.

Don't forget to confirm your email address by clicking the registration link Facebook sent to your inbox.

3. Create a Facebook Business Page

Just like a personal profile is your presence on Facebook, a "page" will be your business's presence on Facebook. Facebook does not allow commercial entities or business to maintain a "personal" profile. While you will be able to put a studio tab on your personal profile, it is a good idea to start a page for your business as well.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

Use this link to go to the page creation page on Facebook.

Fill out the information as you deem appropriate. I decided to consider my demo business primarily a website, but you might want to classify your business otherwise. Make sure the "Name of _____" is the name you want your page to be. This will be the name of your page and you will be unable to change it if you change your mind later. Provide your electronic signature letting Facebook know your authorized to make the page, and click "Create Page"

Like your profile, you can now set up your page all about your business. This will be your business's image on Facebook. An accurate and detailed page will increase your credibility and buyer confidence in your brand. Take a few moments to fill out your page, or come back later and write it up. All pages are basically drafts until you click the "publish this page" link. When you're ready, publish your page!

Tip: There aren't many easy ways to access your facebook page. Bookmark it, and remember you can always manage all your pages by going to this url: www.facebook.com/pages/manage

4. Finding and authorizing the ArtFire Facebook Kiosk Application.

Once you have your profile and pages set up, it's time to get the kiosk application. The easiest way to find the application will be to click this link: http://apps.facebook.com/artfire-kiosk . When you land on the page you should be greeted with the canvas page for the ArtFire Facebook Kiosk. When you're ready, just click the big yellow "Authorize App Now" button.

After clicking this button you'll be taken to an access page where you permit the application to pull information from your profile that it needs to work. Don't worry, your privacy is safe with us, we will never sell or reveal your private information. Click the blue "Allow" button to continue.

5. Setting up your ArtFire Facebook Kiosk

Now it's time to let the application know who you are on ArtFire. To pull your studio, we'll need to know your username, as well as the answer to the security question you used when you signed up. With this information, the ArtFire Facebook Kiosk can pull your shop banner and currently listed items!

6. Editing your tabs to show your ArtFire Facebook Kiosk: Profile

Once your Facebook account and Fusion Studio are linked, it's time to edit your tabs so your friends and fans can see your Kiosk. Let's start with editing our profile. If you're familiar with how to change these tabs use whichever method your comfortable with. If this is your first time editing your tabs, there are several different ways to change them. The first thing to do is click the "Profile" button along the top navigation bar. It should be between "Home" and "Friends"

Once at your profile, just click the "+" button at the end of your tabs.

Now you'll see a drop down menu of additional tabs you can show. If you don't have many applications that can set tabs, you might see the option for the ArtFire Facebook Kiosk right away. If you don't see it, just start typing the word "Art" into the search box and the ArtFire Facebook Kiosk application should show up quickly. Click on the Application when you find it to set this as a visible tab.

Congratulations, your ArtFire Facebook Kiosk is now set up on your profile. Because this calls our servers every time the page is loaded, this page will stay updated with the most current information, changes, and edits from your ArtFire.com Fusion Studio.

7. Adding the ArtFire Facebook Kiosk to your Fan Page

You can also link your Fusion studio to your Fan page. The first thing we'll need to do is go to the ArtFire Facebook Kiosk profile page, just click this link: http://www.facebook.com/business/dashboard/?ref=sb#/apps/application.php?id=119723804515&ref=ts

Once you're at the profile page, just click the "Add to my page" button. (You might need to select a read more option to see this).

When you click the "Add to my Page" button, a window should pop up asking you which pages you'd like to add this application to. Select any pages you'd like your ArtFire Kiosk to appear on. Once you've clicked the button, go ahead and close this window.

8. Editing your tabs to show your ArtFire Facebook Kiosk: Fan Page

Just like a personal profile, you need to edit the tabs on your fan page to show the ArtFire Kiosk. The fastest way to your pages is to click the "Ads and Pages" button in the footer of your page:

At the next page click the "Pages" button near the top of the page.

If you have multiple pages, you can click the title of the page to continue. If you only have one page, click the "view page button". You need to end up on the "public" view of your page, whichever way you feel most comfortable getting there.

Once there, just like with your profile, click the "+" button at the end of your tabs. If ArtFire Kiosk isn't one of the quick choices, just start searching for it by typing "Art" into the search box and it should pop right up. Once you find it, just click the button to set it as a visible tab.

9. Trouble Shooting

I'm having problems getting the Kiosk tab on my profile page:

If the first method of adding the tab is giving your problems try this. Click the "Applications" button in the bottom left corner of the page, and then click "Edit Applications"

Once here, just click the "Edit Settings" button for the ArtFire-Kiosk application. You should a field that says "Tab: Added(remove)" click the remove/add button a few times, making sure the last click is of an "added" button.
