Please start by telling us a little about yourself and your studio.
I am a wife to my darling hubby Jason and a new mother to my beautiful little angel Elizabeth (we like to call her Betsy). When I first became a mother and I began my maternity leave, I knew immediately that I did not want to go back to work full-time. I wanted to be a full time mom AND try get back to my first love – painting. Betsy inspired me to specialize in painting portraits of children after I had painted a portrait of her when she was only 9 weeks old.
If there’s one thing that defines you, what is it?
If there is one thing that defines me, it would be “a mother”. I always knew I wanted to have a
child, but I had no idea how wonderful and fulfilling it would truly be. It is amazing how much you can love someone.
What role does your family play in your art?
My family plays an important role in my art. Betsy is my complete inspiration to be full time mom and as well as a self employed artist because I love to be able to spend as much time as I can with her. Being able to stay at home with my daughter, as well as paint portraits of other beautiful children and families, is a complete dream come true for me. My husband Jason is also an artist, so he is a great critic as well as a great motivator when it comes to my business and my artwork.
Where do you live and what is it like?
We live in Hamilton, Ontario in Southern Canada. We just bought our first home – a big beautiful 4 bedroom that was build in the 1920′s. I set up my art studio on the top floor next to a big window where there is a beautiful view of the park.
Where did you learn your medium?
I have a bachelor degree in Art and I have been an artist for 20 + years. It is my true passion. I
have always been an artist, in fact, my earliest memories as a child had involved painting or drawing or coloring. I knew I had a passion and a talent from a very early age. When I was 16, I started taking oil painting lessons from an internationally renowned artist by the name of Bruno Capolongo. He shared with me so many valuable tools and know-how about painting with oils. After studying with Bruno, I went to Sheridan College for 4.5 years and received a diploma in Illustration and a degree in Fine Arts.
