Smart Scarves

By Jennifer Diana
Fashion meets technology and the whole thing is born here in the US. Designer Diana Eng created a small collection of scarves infused with science and technology.

If the weather outside is frightful, then this scarf will let you know! When the barometer dips below 65 degrees Fahrenheit, snowflakes start to appear on this icicle blue Jack Frost Scarf.

Jersey material is as soft as your favorite t-shirt.  The snowflakes start out small and grow as the temperature dips.

Miura Ori Scarf, in Japanese meaning “leaf fold,” is described by Diana as a collapsible wool cashmere coat for your neck.

Created out of a pleated pattern, the scarf can be folded up into a compact shape to easily carry in a bag or pocket.  This same folded technology known as Miura Ori is utilized in satellite solar panels.

The third and final creation is the Fibonacci scarf created using the Fibonacci number pattern famous in mathematical circles.

The equation or pattern is replicated in nature and can be seen in everything from a pinecone to the seed placement inside a sunflower.  It’s done by adding a number to the previous number creating a golden spiral.

The technical aspects of the designs created by Diana Eng only add to the beauty. Plus each of these was manufactured here in the US! You have to love that.
