Trend: Retro inspired swimwear
It’s pool/beach time and although there are so many swimsuits for ladies to choose from, the style that stands out the most to me over and over is the retro inspired look. It’s the look that has the high waist bikini bottom worn with a bandeau top or halter top. There is also the one piece that stands out the most due to the extended bottom. The entire look can be pulled together with a pair of great large sunglasses, a wide straw hat, and leave the flip flops behind for these looks. Pair them with something a little more classy like a pair of wedges or kitten heels with a metallic finish.
During Miami Fashion Week 2012, designers like Mara Hoffman and Nicolita were inspired by retro designs. My favorite designer right now that I have shared above are Norma Kamali’s always flattering on every woman’s body designs. These retro inspired looks work on every body type and flatter everyone. As you can see in the images above and if you can recall from women in the 50′s and 60′s their shapes weren’t just straight up and down. They had some curve. But, it can also look great on a petite body type as well.
I don’t think I would wear a vintage swimsuit unless I had the lining redone and did a really good cleaning. But, for those of you that design, there are also vintage patterns that can be purchased to design something that is relevant right now. Customers are just looking for classic colors or fun designs. So, there is room to try anything really.
What are your thoughts on retro inspired swimwear designs?
