Each ring in this design was woven one at a time by hand into the Jens Pend Linkage 5 pattern of chainmaille. This pattern can be difficult for beginners and even intermediate chainmail artists. It's very complex (as you can see from the pictures). I've woven it just right here for you, so you can enjoy this handmade piece of jewelry without having to fiddle with all the small rings yourself. This necklace is thick and heavy. Would be a great design for a man, or a lady with attitude. It weighs 70.6 grams (about as much as 12 US quarters or about half as much as an iphone). It's a fun challenge for me to take standard chainmaille weaves and figure out how to make them in stretchy form. The fact that the stretchy rubber rings cannot be opened means that the metal rings have to be woven in a completely different manner than they normally would be. I had a good time figuring out this weave to bring it to you. :) The silver colored rings are made of bright aluminum, which is nice and lightweight. Bright aluminum never rusts or tarnishes, and washes up very easily with standard dish soap you ever want to wash it. Whenever possible, I use the highest quality saw cut rings in my jewelry. Saw cut rings are preferable to lower quality machine cut rings because the ends can come together nice and flush. There are no rough gaps at the closures of the rings. This bracelet uses exclusively saw cut metal rings. The black rings are stretchy EPDM rubber. The amount of rubber rings in this bracelet (half) and the way the design is woven makes this bracelet nice and soft and flexible and it's able to stretch a bit more than other designs. This one's about 7 inches long and should fit most people comfortably, being as it's stretchy and all. The tiniest (made of only 22 gauge wire) jump rings were handwoven one at a time into the difficult JPL chainmaille pattern. Each ring is made of solid sterling silver. The chain is .12 inch wide, which for hand woven chainmail is very small indeed. A gorgeously clear, sparkly sparkly faceted sky blue topaz tear drop was securely wire wrapped in more sterling silver. Yes, it's so sparkly I had to say sparkly twice. Here's the great part. Only one of the loops is connected to the chainmail. From the other loop dangles a tiny garnet on a hand formed spiral headpin. A solitary ring is attached to the bottom of that spiral head pin, to complete the look. Everything hangs from handmade, rounded, over-sized sterling earwires. Each ring in the bracelet was opened, woven, and closed by hand to create this interesting, complex looking chainmaille pattern. This weave is called Half Persian 3 in 1 extra. I've made the traditional Half Persian weave, and added extra rings going down the middle. This gives it more weight, a much more complex look, and make it much more stable and strong. A sterling lobster clasp (stamped 925) holds everything together securely. Argentium sterling silver is a relatively new alloy, known best for its resistance to tarnish. The traditional sterling silver alloy is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. Argentium silver replaces some of the copper with the element Germanium. It is still 92.5% pure silver, and therefore retains the Sterling Silver name. It is highly tarnish resistant, and in general people that are sensitive to metals that can wear traditional sterling silver have no sensitivities to Argentium sterling silver.
