The colors are so rich and warm and the gold gives it that special glow. I have kept the setting simple to let the stone shine. This is a lovely little Broadhead Agate from Arizona. Agates are full of layers of color alternating with translucent areas. This stone has such depth. I crafted the main setting out of sterling and added 14k gold wire handcoiled at the top. I also melted bits of 14k gold wire to create small accent balls - these are sprinkled at the top of the pendant and one larger ball at the bottom for the perfect balance. The pendant hangs on a 1mm 16" Omega chain. I created this ring while on a lakeside metalsmithing retreat. The bumpy border reminds me of the meandering shore of the lake and the rocks which are often found alongside the water's edge. I imagine the triangular jasper as a boat skimming along the top of the water. Process: I began with sterling wire and sheet and some fine silver sheet - which I cut, formed, soldered to create the basic setting. Then using hand tools I textured and formed the piece and set the stone. I added a light patina to bring out the textures and then gave the pendant a light polish Materials: Sterling and fine silver, carnelian, leather cord.
