Then I added vintage crocheted lace to the collar. The lace color blends from white to dark pink. Ruffles made from pink and white cotton oxford cloth are stitched around the bottom hem. The sleeves also have 2 inch ruffles with matching crocheted lace topstitched on. I replaced the original buttons with dusty rose colored buttons to complete the look. A plain denim shirt has become something very special! You can be assured that all the embellishments have been securely and neatly stitched. All edges are cleanly finished. I put in close-up photos of the ducks--I think theyre so cute! Theyre bonded and stitched with a decorative buttonhole stitch for that retro feel. The denim is complimented with sort of a patchwork of red, cream, black, yellow and green fabrics. The decorative topstitching is all done in a heavier black thread. The bottom of the bag (denim) is oval so it maintains its shape. The back of the purse has a nice big pocket for your cellphone and keys. Its secured with a little velcro, too. The sides, however, are soft, so it can expand to whatever depth you need. There is a small interior pocket. The background fabric is a beautiful gradual shading of rainbow colors and the border is a cute balloon print. The creation process takes several hours of very detailed work. I sketch out many designs for each "theme", then finalize a single drawing to use as a pattern. Many separate pieces of fabric are cut, layered and sewn together to create the basic picture.. Then the piece is layered with batting and backing. Surface techniques include thread painting, (stitching with colored thread), topstitching, quilting, silk ribbon embroidery, painting with various mediums, and embellishing with whatever works! This jacket will set you apart from the crowd! My own design, based on jeans jacket styling, combines many piecing styles: wavy freestyle cuts on the front, bargello on the center back, and flying geese down the sleeves, among others. If you dont know what Im talking about, thats OK--your friends who quilt will, and theyll be envious! The featured fabric is a black background with bright rainbow-hued cowboy boots. These colors are picked up in the many other fabrics combined in this jacket. So there is a Western flavor with very contemporary styling. I love texture and there are several techniques used that say "Touch me!" The collar is chenille, sewn with wavy lines and cut to reveal layers of color and a fuzzy texture. There are turquoise Ultra-Suede triangle accents on the button holes down the front and on the cuffs. The buttons (plastic) look like woven leather, and there are rayon chenille yarn accents on the front. The rest of the jacket is 100% cotton (including the lining) which I find most comfortable year-round. And Im not a big fan of high dry-cleaning bills, so I like my clothes machine washable. This jacket is pre-wahsed, pre-shrunk, so it will withstand machine washing and drying. Steam iron touch-ups as needed.
