When the color ink levels were at 99% low, I printed the photo into four separate sections, creating large streaked areas of color in division. The canvas background was based in with beach sand colors, and the printed image was joined onto the canvas with acrylic gel medium as a clear glue and sealer. Using sand paper, I scuffed areas to expose the absorbent paper or rough canvas. Then the image was painted in with Golden brand acrylic paints, which dry with a slight gloss not flat in tone, using thick strokes and rinsing areas with water drips. I followed the color pattern created by the ink jet printing. Some pink distressed looking areas are cracks in the original photograph. The paint soaked into the areas of exposed paper making its own effect. The entire piece was then coated with acrylic gel medium. This helps the canvas set up at the same rate as the paper so there's no mis-shaping of the canvas surface. It also creates another layer for the final paint to rest upon, adding an overall depth near equal to an oil painting.
