Gold-filled wire is widely used in U.S.A. and Europe, but is relatively new to Asia.

 

The wire is made by fusing (i.e. bonding with heat and pressure) a layer of 14K gold to a base metal core.  Gold-filled items are 50 to 100,000 times thicker than regular gold plating, and 17 to 25,000 times thicker than heavy gold electroplate.  The bond between the two metals is permanent, making gold-filled wire strong, durable, and resistant to tarnish.  The only thing that comes in contact with your skin is 14K gold.
