Yesterday I listed this new necklace.  It is multicolored chainmaille woven in the Byzantine style with anodized aluminum rings.  It's small but very pretty.  Perfect to add a touch of color to that dark suit or just to jazz up the old comfy top and jeans outfit you like so much! 

Meant 2b Cherished.  Seems like a strange name for a jewelry shop, but there is a story behind it, of course!  My real name is Maureen Connor.  I wanted a name for my business that uses my initials so I started brainstorming possibilities.  I remember rejecting alot of ideas, but no longer remember what those ideas were (proving how bad they really were!).  Finally I got my mother in on the conversation and we tossed words back and forth until we were laughing hysterically.  Finally, I grabbed a dictionary and opened to the M section - chose a page and saw the word Meant.  I added the 2b and just needed a C word.  My mother came up with Cherished.  My first reaction was....ugh..sappy!!!!  To me it conjured up wedding songs and bad romance novels.  I remember reading the C section of the dictionary to find any other word that fit.  But none did.  My personal reaction notwithstanding, the phrase worked.  I knew I would be abbreviating it as M2bC to make it easier to type and remember so I went with it thinking - what's in a name?

Over the years it has grown on me.  We cherish our children, our spouses (sometimes), our pets and our close relatives.  We cherish the earth and the sky and our diety of choice.  We cherish our freedom and our ideals and our ideas.  The thing I think we forget to cherish is ourselves.   

My jewelry is not made of gold or diamonds, it is comfortable, colorful, casual and works with many different styles.  While I make each piece with the intention that it be cherished by its owner, I really hope that the person who wears it cherishes herself.   

I guess some things are just Meant 2b!
