Mucha &Me

image
Art Nouveau, tales of Lothlorien & Neverland, Alphonse Mucha's artistic love affair with Sarah Bernhardt...all came together in the inspiration for my Elven Dreams Art Nouveau Cuff.

There is definately a "fae-vintage" air about this piece and it can be worn as a bracelet as shown in the photos, or stretched a bit to fit as an upper arm cuff. I wear mine as a very exotic ankle bracelet~there are many different possibilities!

I love the art of Alphonse Mucha! Anyone who has been to my house can tell by all the Mucha (pronounced "moo-kah") artworks that adorn my walls. He was a fierce Czech nationalist, and I like to think I might be related to him somewhere back there- my maternal grandparents are from the same region where he was born. One of the highlights of my first trip to Scotland was attending a Mucha Exhibit in Edinburgh..All of my most beloved Mucha works were there, including the amazing and inspiring Slav Epic series that he painted in honor of his homeland....I could have stayed in the gallery for days!!

I have been especially inspired by the jewelry he adorned his portrait models with, as well as the designs he actually had made into jewelry pieces in collaboration with French jeweler Georges Fouquet. While I am certainly no Mucha, this bracelet has a lot of that love and admiration incorporated into it.

Evenstar Collection is Born

image

Evenstar (Undómiel in the Elvish tongue) was the name given to Arwen by her grandmother Galadriel..a prophetic name, for she was indeed the Evening Star of her people.

In this new elven forest range, I set the purples & pinks of a twilight sky amidst shimmery starlike crystals and leaves.

These pieces started as a routine custom order, but got out of hand and turned into a whole new jewelry range! I love when that happens!

So far I only have ear cuff and pendant, but plans are in the works for elven headdress, bracelet, earrings, hair fanices and more..if you would like to order any of those pieces before I list them, just drop me a line.

October in Kansas- The Autumn Flame Collection

imageOctober is a beautiful time of year in Kansas. The awful heat of summer has passed, we have deep blue skies, brilliant fiery leaves and crisp cool weather.

In the Flinthills, even our prairie grass changes colours, and we see vast expanses of deep golden-copper hue waving in the south wind. I created these pieces with our gorgeous autumn landscape in mind.

The tiara, necklace and earrings are available currently in my ArtFire Shop. Im thinking I will do an ear cuff and maybe a hair clip as well...if you have another request, feel free to contact me anytime:)

Queen Mab, Peter Pan & Arthur Rackham's Faery World

I used to have a big poster of this painting on my wall when I was 16 and all I knew about it then was the caption said "Queen Mab". Many years later when I found it on the web it was entitled "Feeling Very Undancey Indeed," and when I researched it a bit more I discovered it was actually from Arthur Rackham's illustrations for J M Barrie's Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.

Ah, so that explains why I loved the painting so much! I love J. M. Barrie~the world has lost way too much of its innocence these days. I work very diligently to hang on to as much of mine as I can~reading Peter Pan every few years is one of my favorite ways to accomplish this.

According to our beloved Mr Barrie, dancey is how the faeries say they are happy...so undancey is faerie-folk language for a wee bit dispirited or some such thing. It is Queen Mab, and the reason she is feeling undancey is too long to go into here, but Dover Publications is issuing a new edition of the book with Arthur Rackham's original illustrations next month, so you can go and read the story for yourself if you are curious;)

                           image

One of the things I love most about Arthur Rackham's illustrations of Queen Mab is the beautiful tones of ivory and burgandy that he used...it seemed only natural when I was asked to create a wedding set in these colours that they should be named after the undancey faery Queen

When I finished the tiara, I went to find the Undancey picture again and was delighted to see how much it the tiara looked like it belonged to her:)! I also made a hair clip, earrings, two necklaces and am currently working on a bracelet as well. They are my new personal favorites. These are for sale in my ArtFire Shop Here
