Hardanger isn't only for the Norwegians

Hardanger may indeed be a Norwegian invention, from the region surrounding the Hardanger Fjord, but this geometric withdrawn-thread embroidery can look wonderful in a modern home.  Its geometry lends itself to Southwestern designs, as you can see in my bookmarks and table center cloths. I try to put my own individual twist on my creations, and even my Christmas ornaments are one-of-a-kind.  Check out both my Hardanger and Christmas Corner studio sections for a great selection of items, from $10 to $75.

Origin of my studio name

You might ask, what does Acadienne mean, and how did the name come to this studio?  The answer is quite simple; my ethnic background is Acadian, a group of French-speaking Canadians from the Maritime Provinces, mostly New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.  Some of us were evicted by the British a couple of hundred years ago and settled in New England and Louisiana (where we became the Cajuns).  My mother was born in a tiny fishing village in New Brunswick, and moved to Massachusetts with her family when she was 6, where she became a citizen at 21, met and married my father, who was of the same background (U.S. born, however), and the rest is family history.  The feminine form of Acadian is Acadienne, and I wanted to honor my heritage, and have an exotic-sounding studio name that reflects the upscale nature of many of my items, so I chose to be Acadienne online.

Studio Without Walls

Unlike most of my fellow artisans, my studio consists of my project bag, which may contain one or more projects in any of the needlecraft techniques I use.  Most of the time I bring this to my workplace, a small assisted living home which is very clean and totally smoke-free, but it also travels to doctors' waiting rooms, shopping trips where my husband spends more time in the stores than I do, and the occaisional sporting event, though these are becoming less frequent due to husband's vision problems.  Of course, the bag spends time with me at home as well, while watching tv sports.  No smoking anywhere I go, AZ has strict laws and myworkplace has an outside-only rule, and that for staff only.  Check out these turquoise panties and my other can/glass cosies in undies shapes-- I think I hit on something here for stocking stuffers!
