No Petroleum Jelly Here!

My item of the week. Nature's Body Jelly

When I was a kid, my twin brother and I pretty much spent our entire childhood outside it seemed especially during the cold winter months. When I was growing up, Atltantic City NJ had some really bad winter storms. I know that is hard to believe at the shore but it is true. We use to be outside for hours in the cold weather and never really got cold. Now that I think back on it I realize why. My mom was always so worried about us getting dry skin and the two of us getting really cold while we were outside. Back in the day when my mom was growing up, vaseline was used on her skin so it was just our luck that it got passed down to us. I hated the stuff. It was sticky and gooey and I always felt like it was sticking to my clothes. It never really absorbed in to my skin, but during those really cold days playing outside in our snow suits,(gosh I remember that pink and grey snow suit I had) that vaseline kept us warm. I think back on it now and just laugh at how much she use to slather that stuff all over my twin brother and myeself. I NEVER used it as a adult thank goodness.

So what is vaseline petroleum jelly made from? Vaseline is basically a lubricant. It is oil based. It was discovered in 1859 in Titusville, Pennsylvania, United States, on some of the country's first oil rigs. Workers disliked the paraffin-like material forming on rigs because it caused them to malfunction, but they used it on cuts and burns because it hastened healing. Dispite the rumors, vaseline does not heal cuts and burns, but it can keep wounds clean by sealing them off, which may be useful in emergencies. I have never liked this stuff mainly because it never absorbed into my skin and it always  always felt greasy. It doesn't absorb but stays on the top layer of your skin as a barrier.

So why is my jelly so good? It has all the right stuff in it. It has a blend of Castor Bean Oil, Aloe Vera Gel, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Bees Wax, Carnauba. It has a thick consistency of vaseline without the petroleum and it will absorb into your skin which is why I like this so much. No tacky gooey feeling like you just slipped into a pit of oil but smooth and gentle. I like using this on my face before bed and a little on my feet especially during the winter months. I then put soaks on so the jelly can absorb into my feet. When I awake in the morning my feet feeling fabulous.

I know it is so hard for some folks to part with their Vaseline and it has it uses but if you ever want to treat your skin to something other than Vaseline, then try this. We also have samplers if you prefer to try before you buy.
