Into the Studio

Take a look around my studio, I spend most of my day here creating, photographing, designing and working on the internet. When I'm not at my desk I will be doing the usual housewife chores which generally involve following my son around cleaning up where ever he has just been.

Firstly my desk, the most important part of my studio. My husband wasStudio Desk Photo great here in planning this little room so I had enough space, when I start working I do spread out a fair bit. As you can see the space is quite long (about 7 ft) and I use it for nearly everything. Usually my desk will be packed with beads and wire. These tidy stages happen only once in a while. My 2 lamps really help since we don't get alot of good light here and the room light doesn't cut it for me to work under, the lights also come in for photographing my work. I always have the paper there so when I finish a piece I can take pictures and put them straight onto the computer.

I have 2 cupboards under the desk space for my use, one holds all my packaging materials, skecthpads and albums. The other is a huge one for all my suppiles to go in when they are not on the desk. I also hoard chocolate, peanuts and pop in there for when I get peckish to save having to get up and go into the kitchen.

As well as my snacking comforts, I have loads of family photos over my windowsill that serves as a handy shelf. I love to be able to see my family when I'm working since my husband is usually at work and my son at school it's always a pleasure to look up and see them smiling at me.

The only thing I don't do in the studio is polymer clay since this is something my son likes to join in with. We have a plastic mat that gets laid on the living room floor and ceramic tiles to work on. Every time I choose a colour he has to have a bit too, I'm surprised he doesn't mush them together into a mud, I often get asked if we can make beads on the way home from school.

There it is my studio. One day I hope to overtake the store room and get a torch for lampworking. It does mean sorting through the years of things we seem to have collected and not used in a while but once I get the motivation to sort it I will certainly be treating myself.

Thats all for now, next time I will be talking about my DinkErings range. How the idea evoled and the basics behind creating them.

Thanks Roberta. I'll send you a message, the answer is a little long winded.

I want my own studio! I wish I had a more organized space like yours. It's really cool that your son likes helping you create too.
