Hi, my name is Celeste a.k.a. Crickets and I run Crickets Handknits on ArtFire!
I live in Kanab, southern Utah. Our tiny town gets many thousands of visitors every year, since it’s smack dab between Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon and Grand Staircase Escalante in an extremely scenic, high desert part of the Southwest.
I design every, single product myself; never using a pattern, guide or another’s idea as a template.
I am infatuated with shifts and changes in color and texture, which is evident in my hand knit scarves, shawls and blankets. I even recently designed and created a shawl for Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, she wears it onstage each night that she performs “Rhiannon.” Being noticed by Stevie has been pretty much the highlight of my universe!

Vogue Knitting did a blurb about me and Stevie Nicks’ shawl.
When I was 8 years old I took a class and learned how to knit a dishcloth! I fell in love with the process of creating something inch by inch, tiny movement by tiny movement. For example, each of my shawls contains over 3,000 hand stitches. Since that initial class, I’ve been book-taught and self-taught.
I design every, single product myself; never using a pattern, guide or another’s idea as a template. I’ve been creating full-time since 2008 and loving every minute of it! Customizing colors is my specialty and brings me great joy. Many shoppers will send me photos and ask me to match them!
In addition to having designed for STEVIE (!! *faints* !!), I also made a scarf for Shannon Leto (drummer for hit band 30 Seconds to Mars). I have also received attention from Better Homes & Gardens and Vegetarian Times magazines (myself and my products are vegan).
I love stocking the shelves of boho, artsy boutiques and gift shops with my free-flowing scarves! It’s very rewarding when shop owners send me images of their Crickets wholesale orders on display and ready for purchase.
To juggle a super busy schedule (my husband and I also host travelers worldwide through Airbnb, plus we have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 donkeys), I schedule my day and even set timers to help me stay on track!
In the past I’ve struggled with panicking when I’m about to run out of a supply that is vital in order to make a particular line of products. I’ve learned to let go and embrace the need to create NEW favorites.
When I’m not working (which is rare), I love simple pursuits in nature and the outdoors, such as pulling weeds in the yard or walking trails in the gorgeous, nearby countryside. Spotting any kind of wildlife makes my day, so I’m thrilled to share our property with quail, jackrabbits, ground squirrels and even less cuddly creatures such as bats, snakes, lizards, salamanders and tarantulas.
I love the personal feel of ArtFire and the accessibility of admin and staff. ArtFire truly cares about providing a marketplace with integrity and vision.
…let your uniqueness show in your shop, products and messaging.
To new ArtFire shop owners: Welcome! My best advice is to always remember who YOU are and to be true to yourself. Your specific traits and style and personality will win you a following, more so than will any market research or trend-watching. So let your uniqueness show in your shop, products and messaging. Everything else will come naturally.
Update: Last week one of Cricket’s throw blankets (shown below) was used on the set of AMC’s upcoming TV series, “Preacher,” which is scheduled to be released next year.
