Hi, my name is Ginny O’Shea, I live on Long Island, NY, and I make original hand made designed jewelry.
My passion became a business when I found that I was making, frankly, too much jewelry for one person to own!!
I design earrings, necklaces, and bracelets from gemstones and various metal wire and findings. I also create metal stamped jewelry, some pieces are hand forged, shaped and filed.
I’ve always been a creative person, and I have found in the past five years that making jewelry fills that passion for me in a very rewarding way! I am self taught. One day I was looking to replace a bead to a favorite pair of earrings in the Michael’s Craft store. I couldn’t find the exact bead, so I decided to try to make a new pair myself with similar beads. I did it, and was hooked! I ordered videos, looked at many YouTube tutorials and through trial and error began to master the art of jewelry making.
My inspiration comes from simply being intrigued by the stones that speak to me. I play around with different colors and textures, and eventually the right design comes to me. It never takes too long, as the beads and stones are all so beautiful, they just need to make sense together, even if it isn’t a “traditional” design. I like to think outside the box!
I became a member when ArtFire had just been born and I think they are the place to sell, hands down.
My passion became a business when I found that I was making, frankly, too much jewelry for one person to own! I knew I wanted to share these beauties with the world, and then I found ArtFire. I became a member when ArtFire had just been born and I think they are the place to sell, hands down.
My other job is as a singer/songwriter/musician. I’ve been playing for over 25 years now. I’m a soloist and play keyboard and sing in restaurants all over Long Island. I never realized that making jewelry would bring the same satisfaction as music does for me. I feel truly blessed. I think what makes my designs unique is that each one is made with the intent that the person who will eventually wear that piece will truly feel proud and special when they wear it. So a lot of time, craftsmanship, and love for each piece shows in the end result.
I design and construct each and every piece. I also am the one who packs up the shipment to make sure it is securely wrapped and ready to take the brunt of the USPS trip! My future plans for my business is to grow, grow, and grow more! The sky’s the limit for me because I love what I do. I truly do.
I haven’t faced any challenges so far. Only good feedback, which I am grateful for! It’s easy for me to juggle my family life with my business. My music gigs are in the evening, and that leaves me the daytime to create and post jewelry to ArtFire. My daughters are grown and I just have my husband and two dogs to look after.
I drive customers to my ArtFire site primarily through my Go-Gem Creations FB page and also often offer giveaways. I’ve also participated in Facebook’s “boost your page” ads. What I love about ArtFire is the relaxed atmosphere it offers for sellers. It’s easy to post your product, a very user friendly site, and has a “human” connection when trying to get support, unlike Ebay, which has difficult, shall I say, “guidelines” to sell under. ArtFire is a relaxed and comfortable pleasant experience for the seller.
What I would say to someone who has just opened a new shop on ArtFire is that it is so affordable, and is a growing site for artists that keeps getting bigger and better. You can’t go wrong on this one! You can try all the others, but you’ll always come back and stay loyal to ArtFire!
