Seller Spotlights are hand selected by the ArtFire Staff and contacted personally. We ask sellers to tell us a bit more about themselves and their business through their own eyes.
Hello! My name is Theresa Mink and I am the creator of Theresa Mink Designs.
I live in Austin, Texas – a.k.a. the capitol of Texas. It has many lakes and verdant rolling hills and is known as the ‘ Live Music Capitol of the World.’
After I retired from my furniture business I decided to get back to what I love, Art. I spent time oil painting, making stained glass projects, among other crafts. These art pieces proved hard to market and I wanted to be able to contribute to the family finances. From a business standpoint, I came to the conclusion that jewelry would attract more customer interest.
Although I have a bachelors degree in Art and Psychology from Houston Baptist University, I have never taken a formal jewelry making class. I am completely self taught. I began making jewelry and selling to friends and family, who encouraged me to pursue this career. I had so much fun visualizing a piece and then creating it, that for months, all I could think about was jewelry, and what my next creation would be! I started my online jewelry business in February 2007.
My focus is designing simple, classic, and timeless jewelry, inspired by celebrities, my customers, as well as my own imagination.
Almost daily one of my customers contacts me to request a custom piece. I love the challenge of making something that they have visualized come true. Many times they will send me a celebrity photo and ask if I can duplicate the jewelry being worn, at a more affordable price.
I spend many hours researching how to make a similar item but with my own design, so as not to infringe on someone else’s intellectual copyright. I present it to the customers and inevitably, they love it. Then, it goes in my shop so that others can enjoy it as well.
I am a full-time working artisan. Due to high sales volume I have employed my son, Steven Garcia, to help me.
It is also his full-time job. What makes my business unique is that a customer can talk directly to the artist, and customize their piece if they so wish. My jewelry is not cookie-cutter, pre-manufactured like the items that you find in a retail jewelry store. They are simple, classic designs at a very affordable price.
I am the designer and photographer of all of my jewelry. My son and I are the artisans. My son Steven has been invaluable in helping me find the proper tools and methods that have taken us to the next level. I began designing and making my jewelry with Gold Filled and Sterling Silver components. As my business has progressed we have expanded to include 14k gold and diamond jewelry. There is a price point for everyone.
Designing and making jewelry gives me inner peace. It is very therapeutic – I’m in my own little world while I am working, with nothing but pleasant thoughts. My letter stud earrings were recently purchased by Bobbie Thomas, the style editor of NBC’s Today Show. They were featured on the KLG and Hoda show on ‘Bobbie’s Buzz.’
My work has also been featured in Tammy Powley’s latest book titled “Mixed Media Jewelry.” Tammy Powley is the jewelry expert on About.com. My jewelry has also been presented in Sandra Salamony’s book titled “1000 Jewelry Inspirations.”Theresa Mink Designs was also given an exclusive invitation to contribute to the Daytime Emmy’s gift bag for celebrity attendees. I have many repeat celebrity customers! Many popular bloggers and youtube video bloggers have featured my work and brought me many sales. The most recent one is Michele Monos on Youtube, featuring my vertical bar necklace (seen at the very top).
Outfit of the Day | Current/Elliott & Express!
My best selling items are personalized, engraved jewelry, initial necklaces, and pieces that are celebrity inspired. Trending items such as evil eye bracelets, horseshoe, and wishbone necklaces are hot sellers too.
I am so thankful for the day that I opened an online shop.
Since both my husband and I are self employed, we love to travel the world. We particularly like cruising – you can visit so many countries in a short period of time, and you don’t have to constantly pack and un-pack. Other hobbies that I enjoy are photography and snow skiing.
I am so thankful for the day that I opened an online shop. I have accomplished more than I had ever dreamed! We artisans can create a product, ArtFire helps us market it, and it can be sold worldwide. The shops are open 24/7, 365 days a year. Where else can you be making money while you are sleeping, or on vacation?
Running my own business has taught me that patience and perseverance are the key to any successful endeavor.
I really like the layout of ArtFire’s pages. It is very user friendly, and it is also simple to learn and manage from a sellers perspective. But the best thing is how affordable it is to sell on ArtFire, as compared to other websites.
Running my own business has taught me that patience and perseverance are the key to any successful endeavor. It doesn’t happen all at once. Create your own unique style and build your brand. Promoting is very important. I advertise on all the social media websites – Facebook, Pinterest, Google, etc.
I have spent many hours researching and finding the best supplier sources for tools and components. This took years, and it is a never ending project. My long term goal is to continue doing what I am doing. I have no plans to stop creating jewelry, nor to stop selling on ArtFire.
