Have you noticed that espadrilles are everywhere!? From people traveling to Spain and getting the authentic gorgeous designs (you can tell that’s what I want), to marked down versions at H&M and then, DIY versions which I find fun and want to try. Even though some places have them at rather low prices, I find that espadrilles in general are usually a reasonable price and perfect for summer. Believe it or not, these shoes can be dressed up or down. I’m mainly referring to the flats. They can take a dressier summer dress to a more relaxed level. Or, pair them with a your Bermuda shorts and tank for a perfect laid back look. Either way, these shoes are the epitome of comfort and chic. Just out of curiosity, I checked out the history of espadrilles on Wikipedia and found out that the espadrille originates from Pyrenees in the 14th century and the defining factor (since the style has been played with so much now) is the jute rope sole. Another interesting fact, this popular shoe today used to be worn by peasants! Go figure! That just proves that trends are not based on status:) Finally a little fashion history (also from Wikipedia): *”Espadrilles became fashionable in USA in the 1940s. Lauren Bacall‘s character in the 1948 movie “Key Largo” wore ankle-laced espadrilles.” *”The style was revived in the 1980s, due to the success of Miami Vice – the shoe was worn by Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson).” Pretty interested information:) Hope you enjoyed! Now, you know a little more about the shoes we love.
